ABSTRACT
The demographic changes in the European Union, that have been observed for many years clearly show the aging of the population, on which the processes of fertility, mortality and migration have a huge impact. This phenomenon is a serious problem of a demographic and socio-economic nature, because it leads to many adverse consequences, i.e., in policy changes in the functioning of social security systems, healthcare or education. In an aging society the healthcare system plays an important role. Due to the increasing number of the elderly population the demand for care services and medical care is increasing, and thus there is a corresponding increase in medical personnel, the number of beds in hospitals, sanatoriums, health resorts and hospices. The study includes a spatial analysis of medical care system development in the European Union and will research the impact of the aging society process on medical care system development.
