ABSTRACT
This article presents the main directions regarding current transport, with particular emphasis on public transport. The main challenges identified were to improve fluidity in towns, to reduce pollution, to make urban transport more ‘intelligent’ and to make it more accessible, safer and secure. The achievement of the above mentioned targets requires the cooperation of different specialists, but above all, the improvement of ergonomics rules and new technology. The priority area of research in the range of transportation system was defined. Furthermore, the ergonomic designing procedure and two examples of innovative and user-friendly means of transport have been presented in the article. The research was carried out as part of the project ECO-mobility, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Program Innovative Economy (UND-POIG.01.03.01-14-154) on the Faculty of Transport in Warsaw University of Technology.
