Digital competencies have become one of the central research areas in contemporary management studies, and constitute the foundation for knowledge management, adaptive capabilities, and organisational resilience, particularly in high-risk and high-responsibility sectors. Their importance has increased significantly alongside the digitalisation of organisational processes and the rapid development of technologies supporting operational safety and continuity. The aim of this article is to identify, analyse, and visualise global research trends related to digital competencies between 1975 and 2025, as well as to determine the implications of these studies for the development of safety policies and competency frameworks among railway operators. The study employed bibliometric and scientometric analysis based on the Scopus database, using the PRISMA selection procedure and VOSviewer software for keyword co-occurrence analysis and scientific network mapping. The results indicate an exponential growth in publications, with social sciences and computer science dominating the field, while management studies remain comparatively underrepresented.
