ABSTRACT
The aim of this article is to analyse managerial actions that contribute to reducing employee sickness absence and to identify the competencies necessary for effectively managing this phenomenon within an organisation. The analysis was conducted using data obtained from an information system and also the results of an audit carried out in a manufacturing enterprise. The study adopted a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative data were collected from payroll systems and the Conperio Absence Dashboard tool. The qualitative component was based on a case study involving 52 individuals in managerial positions, including company managers, department heads, and team leaders. Managers’ effectiveness in reducing sickness absence depends both on the organizational tools applied and on their competencies, particularly their analytical and interpersonal skills. The most significant factors include regular return-to-work interviews, systematic data analysis, and consistent communication of managerial expectations regarding absence. The article focuses on the practical role of managers in sickness absence management. It highlights the importance of an HR tool used for monitoring and analysing absence, and additionally identifies a research gap
