ABSTRACT
Women’s entrepreneurship is one of relatively new research directions. Understanding its specificity seems to be particularly important due to the fact that the number of women starting a business in recent decades has been steadily increasing. However, numerous studies indicate the presence of many limitations to female entrepreneurship and the coexistence of a relatively large potential that may have real significance for the economic development of the country and regions. The aim of the paper is to present the conclusions drawn from selected studies conducted in the last decade in the Wielkopolska region, which were often inspired or constituted a kind of continuation of the multifaceted research by Professor Teresa Łuczka on the conditions for the development of the small and medium-sized enterprise sector in Poland and in the world. The following problems were investigated: entrepreneurial attitudes, barriers limiting the willingness to start and run one’s own business and the level of business knowledge declared by the respondents. Further research on the entrepreneurship of young women can provide knowledge about educational needs, the implementation of effective support instruments and the possibility of influencing their motivation to take up an active entrepreneurial attitude.
