The article presents the idea and the structure of the European Tourism Indicators System, as well as the philosophy of its implementation and tools proposed by the European Commission that enable monitoring tourism development in the context of sustainability. Strategic tourism management in Poznan urban agglomeration and its conformity with the European Tourism Indicators System was analyzed. The main research problem is the evaluation of the identity of the ETIS concept and Poznan’s tourism management system, as well as the explosion of possibilities of introducing ETIS in Poznan urban agglomeration, serving the monitoring of sustainable tourism development in cities.
